CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Reformed Theological Seminary is pleased to announce that Dr. Kevin J. Vanhoozer will deliver the 2024 Harold O.J. Brown Lectures at RTS Charlotte. His lecture series will be entitled “Transfiguring Biblical Interpretation: The Light of Christ in the Letter of the Text.”
Dr. Vanhoozer is Research Professor of Systematic Theology at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Additionally, he has served on the faculty at Wheaton College and Graduate School and the University of Edinburgh. He holds degrees from Westmont College (B.A.), Westminster Theological Seminary (MDiv), and Cambridge University (Ph.D.).
“The Harold O.J. Brown lecture series has attracted some exceptional scholars over the years, and this year is no exception,” said Dr. Michael Kruger, RTS Charlotte President. “It is a privilege to welcome a scholar like Dr. Vanhoozer, who embodies both the academic depth and spiritual devotion we value here at RTS and that Dr. Brown himself so ably demonstrated. An accomplished author, Dr. Vanhoozer has written 12 books, including three that were named Theology Books of the Year by Christianity Today. He has also been on the editorial boards of the International Journal of Systematic Theology, Journal for Theological Interpretation, and Pro Ecclesia. He is married and has two adult daughters, one son-in-law, and 16 doctoral students.

About the Harold O.J. Brown Lectures
Dr. Harold O.J. Brown served as John R. Richardson Professor of Theology and Philosophy at RTS Charlotte from 1998 until his death in 2007. His students and colleagues knew him for a winsome ecumenical spirit, keen intellect, and warm piety. RTS Charlotte accordingly honors Dr. Brown’s memory with a lecture series bearing his name.
Each year, guest speakers present on a topic of their choice at the Charlotte campus. Past lecturers include Drs. Carl Trueman, Mark Dever, Derek Thomas, Al Mohler, Simon Gathercole, Timothy George, and more.
